Why it matters
When an AI assistant needs to decide whether to recommend you, it has to work out what you are from a site built for human readers. An llms.txt hands it the answer directly, in the format it prefers: plain facts, no marketing language. It costs nothing and takes one upload.
What we deliberately left out
Superlatives. The spec discourages words like “best” and “leading,” because assistants weight plain, checkable facts and discount sales copy. The generator won't write them for you even if you type them in the services field.

Is the llms.txt generator really free?

Where do I put the llms.txt file?
At the top level of your website, so that it loads at yourbusiness.com/llms.txt. Most website platforms have a file manager or a root-folder upload for exactly this. If yours does not, your web host can place it in about two minutes.
Will an llms.txt file make ChatGPT recommend my business?
On its own, no. It removes one specific obstacle — an assistant having to infer what you are from a site written for humans. Whether you get recommended also depends on crawler access, structured data, review presence and how clearly your pages answer the questions buyers actually ask. How often should I regenerate it?
Any time your services, phone number, service area or website structure changes. It takes under a minute, so there is no reason to let it go stale.
